hey guys,
one of my schwartz corys appears to be doin what would be hyperentilating (if itwas human) just appears to be doing what they do when they are foraging for food, but hes not moving and does it constantly, any ideas?

He is moving and eating normally, water params are normal, havent fluctuated at all.....

You say he does it when they are foraging, so chances are he is just chewing the bits of food he finds. When they do this, it looks like they are breathing fast (almost like their gills are vibrating), but it really their jaws moving. If look carefully, the other corys should be doing it too.

Does that sound like what he's doing?

It does sounds like what he is doing, but hes doing it constantly, maybe hes just eating a lot and im not catching it? just a hungry fish now i feel kinda dumb.....but better safe than sorry. He has kinda been staying in one corner of that tank, maybe thats why i thought it was something serious?

The first time I noticed my cories doing this, it worried me as well. It appears that the fish are just chewing up their food, as Natalie said. Since cories do not spit out their food, take it back in, spit it out, etc. to soften it like many other fish do, they must chew it up a bit before it becomes easy to swallow.

Fish do not chew their food. I, too, have observed this behavior in cories, as well as other bottom strata fish, and it is perfectly normal. However, this movement is not attributed to grinding up their food for ingestion.

I had the same issue but it is a normal thing to see this, just like how they go a bit crazy from time to time and dart around the tank and occasionally hit other fish like my poor ottos. I have also noticed that on my bronze/nattereri cories, they have spots around their gills is this also normal?
