gartenzwerfe Big Fish Mrs. Racso To Be Posts: 375 Kudos: 628 Votes: 199 Registered: 20-Mar-2004	Racso and I were looking in my 55g community tank just now and noticed that one of my otos has a HUGE belly. I thought I remembered reading another thread about that, saying it was possible that it was carrying eggs or something fuzzy I can't find the thread, so I had to make a new one. The swelling appears to begin at the base of the pectoral fins and extends down the body to the base of the anal fin, if that makes sense. The swelling is side to side, as well as front to back. I guess the best way to describe it is there's a tiny inflated baloon in his/her body. Are eggs a possability? Bloat? Sorry I can't get a pic posted, I don't know where the camera is Anyone have any ideas? Thanks. ><>Dani<><

Cup_of_Lifenoodles Fish Guru Posts: 2755 Kudos: 1957 Votes: 30 Registered: 09-Sep-2004	I've never heard of an otto getting bloat . But I suppose, in theory, it is possible. Is it a lone otto? It is very possible that your otto is carrying eggs (consider yourself lucky ).

It was so fat that it had trouble hanging on the glass. I thought yay shes pregnant! 4 hours later she spontaneously combusted and it was pretty horrifying for me- new to fish keeping and new to these adorable little catfish! Try feeding some shelled pea after lights out for them and see if it is constipation. Keep an eye on the little one and keep us posted.
