I transfered my eel into its own 29g tank thinking the reason for not comming out was because the others scared it. but still he hides all day and I only see it at night, or when it is dark. any ideas to entice the little one to come out.

tank setup:
1.5 inch gravel
2 caves
no plants
flouresent light
coverall lid
wisper filtration
biowheel
ph 7.6
temp 79f
feed tetramin, freezedried bloodworms, guppies, small minnows, occasional small ghost shrimp.

eel is 3.5" inches
loves to eatperfectly healthy.

any ideas, thank you,
brac

Perhaps you should start a nocturnal lifestyle since that's the only time he's going to come out. The eel will come out when he darn well pleases. It may be possible to get him to come out to eat, but that's all you'll be able to do. It's a nocturnal fish, so if he sleeps during the day time, tough.:%)

here are two of my "eel babies." guess when i photographed them? 11pm. mine do come out occasionally during the day, but for the most part, i can only expect the eel parade to start at least an hour after lights out. i assure you, the eel is not afraid of your other fish (provided they're not, like, oscars or something), so you can add fish to his tank (not tiny ones, he'll eat em).

i found that my eels hid constantly for a couple months before they got comfortable enough to cavort through the tank, even at night to a degree.[/font]

it took mine about 2 months to be comfortable and getting rid of an very aggressive cae. He would attack eli (the eel) but he was very cool when he came out. blood worms when he does come out. BUt don't try to make him come out wait untill he chooses then reward him with the worms.

Well I am reallty lucky because mine seems o be awake all day and all night. He will be swimming around in the day, poking his head out of the caves then darting across under the driftwood then going into the terracota pot until he decides he will come out and he will sit, bar the tip of his tail which will stay in the pot, out in the gap between the driftwood and the pot.

Then at night he will be even more active, swimming around, up to the top and back down to the bottom and then relax again in the pot.

When I feed at night for all the nocturnal fish I put the light on in my room on dim, because I asked my Dad to install a dimmer switch just so I can see them without disturbing them as much with the light on full brightness, and the eel realises straight away that some frozen food will be coming and will swim all the way to the top ogf the tank to attack the net and suck some bloodworm out of the net! Cheecky aint he, also the BGK and Clown Loach copy him by doing it as well, but the eel is always the first one there. Then when I release the food he will stay by it in the open no matter what, all the other fish may get spooked and swim under the driftwood and the eel will stay there eating as much as he can lol.

He is one greedy, and very cool fish. I now want to upgrade the tank for them so they have more room and want to use the tank they are in at the moment for either a Ghost Eel (which is a marine eel that is white and looks really cool) or a Mexican or Hawaiin Dragon Eel (which are both marine again and are awesome) or a Fire Eel (which is the best FW eel)
