i love this fish, i have had some in the past, and they are my favorite fish, i know they reach around 40 + inches and change forms. my question is i have had them in warm water tanks, but i might want to try a cold water tank that is holding some rosy barbs.

will the water temp change their growth rate/color/activy/overall health.

The cooler water will lower their metabolism, causing them to grow slower, but not much else.

these are naturally cold water fish, so when they are in warm water, they should grow faster right.

If you raise the temperature, you could raise their matabilism so they will eat more and grow/eat more waste that would foul the water otherwise. Still, you could find a happy medium. Many breeders take advantage of that.

great, i will be picking some up on tuesday, the only question was were to stock them, for awhile, or until spring is around, i think i will add them to colder water, and see how it goes. the only reason i ask, is b/c they are very expensive and hard to handle. with their very fine scales tankmates have to be picked very carefully.

keep the tank cool and they will stay in their prime longer.

way to go!
They are probably my favorite fish.
Wish I had enough room to keep one.
They do change shape at the age, looking
more like the cyprinid they are, rather than
the loach they are called.
Please Post pic when you get them!

very well.

i dont think it is stunting, b/c they will proabably get to adult sizes if the metabolism is slowed down, but it will just take longer. Since these fish are naturally coldwater i dont think it should really be a problem for them.
