Can someone suggest a (fairly common) cory catfish that would be happy in such conditions? Fairly common may equal farm- or tank-raised as these may have adopted to waters a little more unlike their native homes, at least that is my understanding. I would rather not try to change my water -- it is usually easier to fit the fish to the water than the other way around. |

You're probably not going to find many fish compatible with Cories at pHs like that anyway. Why not try a Synodontis instead? These fish come from Africa, many from Tanganyika where the pH is that high. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

Only that will have a bearing on your choices. I would NOT put Corys in with Rift Lake Cichlids. If you're just looking for a general community, but want adaptable fish that will live in your hard, alkaline water, then I'd stick to Bronzes and Peppered Corys, but make sure that they have spent some time in your local water at the dealer's without keeling over first ![]() ![]() |

But, I have 6 Peppered Cories, and they have been living in this water for over 9 months now. Plus, my brother has Green and Peppered Cories in the same tank as the Sterbai was in and all of those also are fine. |

I was thinking a 20-30 gallon tank. I do not have the room for much more in my apartment. From the profiles, I was thinking Peppered Corys myself, but wanted to make sure that they would be adaptable enough. Thanks for the advice. |
