I assume i would need a powerhead to simulate the current for them. Any ideas would be good if you have any. Do they like caves? Also anyone know of plants that can be grown with a strong current? Also what would be an ideal tankmate for them? I'm looking aquascaping as well as stocking ideas ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I have a Penguin 170 on my 20 long and it is planted with hornwort, anubias nana, java fern, java moss (a must because they love to lay eggs in it), banana plant, and one lonely tiger val. An ideal corydoras habitat would have lots of ways for them to explore all strata. They are not shy about going all the way to the top strata, following the underside of a leaf. They like to sit on top of something high, moreso than inside of anything like caves (at least mine do). I have a cave-like structure and I rarely find them in it. However, it is like a parking deck when all of them rest on it. That, BTW is in the lowest current area of the tank, away from the filter. Sometimes they like current, other times they like it quiet so I would provide dead spots for them. I've wanted to create a habitat that included some type of rock steps. Make sure your setup allows you to gravel vac well. They do best in low nitrate tanks, free of debris. I got sick and was more than neglectful of my 20 long. I lost one and am battling full blown barbel loss on all of them. The nitrates went high, but I found some pretty gunked up areas when I stripped the tank of all decco and plants to clean it good. I just love them and they are sooooo sweet ![]() Tankmates: I have mine with rasboras, white clouds and otos - all at about 75F. There are two male guppies in there and 3 very lazy corys that were sold as agasizzii's but possibly trilineatus. There's no competition with them. Make sure you don't have any fish in there that would want to even "play" with them or compete for food. They are tiny and easily swallowed by some of the larger fish. I'd keep tankmates small and slow moving - nothing dizzying like danios ![]() ![]() Here is the write-up I submitted and the picture is that of "Mini-Me". She was dubbed that because the other cories made her look like a dwarf. ![]() http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/daintycory.xm Last edited by Cory_Di at 02-Feb-2005 22:30 |

If you have enough, they'll be out all the time, and you don't need any other fish. I'd get sand, because cories really like it. Mine love to bury their little noses in it as they scooter around. The plants depend on how much light you have, but I've noticed that my cories like rosette plants like swords, and crypt-type plants. They like to go up the leaves on one side, and back down on the other. Some driftwood too, for exploring. I'd use a little peat in the filter if you don't already have soft water with a lowish pH. Sounds like lots of fun! ![]() They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver, So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces. |

The driftwood is good to. Mine like to perch on top of it. I must say a species tank with cories only would be great. Maybe some otos on algae with them. They are active throughout the day and quite comical. Mine do take only a mid afternoon nap, then it's back to clowning around. |

Is tahitian moon sand a good choice for substrate? Can i plant with it? Also my stocklist should look like what in a 10 gallon? Any other inhabitants besides the cories? Maybe some mts if i can find any? |

Janna![]() ![]() Mega Fish Posts: 1386 Registered: 24-Aug-2003 ![]() ![]() | Yup, tahitian moon sand would be fine. I've had no problems with planting in sand, but some say it will compact around the roots, causing problems. MTS will definitely help with that. For those of you who are too embarassed to ask what those are, they're malaysian trumpet snails. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Janna at 03-Feb-2005 22:19 They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver, So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces. |
