i have had a dozen or so of the brown loaches that look like kuhlis in my 150gal for quite some time. a month or so ago, the ac in my house died, and the water temp shot up to 113 for several days (i tried to cool it down, but the $1000 repair bill took me several days to cough up, and we had to leave the house for awhile. az heat is brutal).

naturally, several of these guys perished (as did most of the tank). all of the dead loaches had large sections of flesh that turned a ivory white color. at first, i assumed it was a discoloration due to death (my glass cats looked like milk). however, i noticed the same coloration on one of the survivors today (i am guessing just 1- it's hard to tell).

it does not seem to be bothering him at all. at first, i thought it might be some type of fungal infection, but now i am not so sure. it does not potrude from the flesh- it really looks like a section of its skin just changed colors.

some of these guys are about 5 years old. could it be a natural part of the aging process? could it be a reaction to the extreme temp variation? none of the other surviving species of fish exhibit any type of tramua, nor do any of my recent introductions. quarintining 1 of these things sounds like a nightmare.

any ideas as to what it may be?
