| | loaches.... |
| jenbabe256 Big Fish Posts: 316 Kudos: 312 Votes: 10 Registered: 21-Jul-2004 | I love loaches, but personally, am not a big fan of the oh so popular clown loach. I have 2 botia kubotai, 3 zebras that go around my tank in a pack (they are so cute because they are little bitty right now, about half an inch or so but still very feisty) and 2 dojo loaches. I love loaches and someday would like to get some horsehead loaches! |

I have 9 of them. The other loaches I keep are kuhlis and zebra loaches. I got me an orange finned blue loach, but gave him back to the LFS in less than 12 hours. He was bullying my clowns around. |

They require temperatures to be below 75 degrees to survive for more than a couple months. Most LFSs keep their tanks at tropical temperatures. With the rough handling these fish go through, combined with the high temperatures and overcrowded tanks in the stores, it's not too surprising that so many of them die. | MO Hobbyist Posts: 126 Kudos: 50 Votes: 2 Registered: 09-Nov-2001 | I have yoyos and kuhlis and they are my favorite fish now. I have been looking for more yoyos for over a year and nobody had them. I was told by one shop that they hadn't seen any in years. Then this weekend I was at a shop and out of the blue they had like 40 of them! A little pricier at $8 (my others were only $3), but now that I have had yoyos I know they are more than worth. So I snatched up 2 more. They are so cute...it is hard to believe that my other ones were once that small. Now I need to find more kuhlis and black kuhlis. It seems they have become very scarce as well. Haven't seen any in a couple of years. I don't really get why clown loaches are so popular. Sure they are cute, but how many people can really care for them when they get big. I for one do not enjoy having to give my fish away just because they got big. A friend of mine tried to convince me to take her clown loaches to put in my 29g when she moved. I knew that wouldn't work. Even her 75g would not have been big enough for them in a few years. |
