I'm looking for an algae eater for my 40g and was planning on getting a bristlenose, however, they're not always available.

I noticed an albino chocolate pl*co was on sale from $30 to $8. They guys in the tank looked they were really going to town on the algae, but I didn't want to end up with one of these guys that stops eating algae and gets lazy once they're mature.

Does anyone know anything else about this type of pl*co?

Hi John, I have one of these and I have some strong oppinions on him. He is cool to look at but thats about it with mine. I know all fish tend to have their own personality so goes it here. Mine is so aggressive I had to put him in his own tank, by his self. He is about 6 in. long now. He has no algae growing in his tank so he does "work".

I got him for 8 dollars when he was little, about 6 months ago. I have BN's now, and much prefer their efforts. Size wise the BN can work on the plants in the tank with out breaking them, no so with the albino choc fellow. He also breaks the surface with such force you would think hes a 10 in. game fish. Hope this helps but maybe I just got a rouge so I am waiting for more replies to you question also.

The only plecos that have been commercially marketed as albinos are the P. Pardalis (common pleco) and an unidentified ancistrus sp.

Well, if there isn't a lot of information on them and the only person who's had one had a bad experience I guess I'll keep looking for a bristlenose.
