how can u tell if a cory is male or female?? i saw all 6 of my peppered cories tonight, first time for ages. they were out and very active tonight. anyway i noticed one was alot larger than the others and also had a different shape top fin. it was more pointed and about twice the size of the other fish.he did look very different in shape. i was wondering if this was the difference in male/female, or whether maybe he wasnt from the same lot as the others and maybe a diff breed? the marking are the same

That's probably the female. Females do tend to be larger and more rounder in their overall shape than the males.

females are definitely the bigger ones, and my sterbai females tend to show a more golden tinge on their fins when in breeding condition.

Cories are easy to sex once they near their full size. Females tend to be a little larger lengthwise and have broader bellies, and egg-filled girls are extra-fat. In some cories, males have taller dorsal fins than females do, though this is not always a telling trait. C. paleatus (the peppered cory) is actually one of the species where males have tall dorsal fins. Unfortunately, captive-bred peppers have had the tall fins and wild colors bred out of them. Wild peppered cories are really nice, their dorsal fins look like sails!

I agree with the others, females are bigger & wider than males.

the actual shap eof cory isnt any different to the others, it is just slightly larger in size, but the top fin is about twice the height compared to other corys we have
