The lfs did label them as metaes. If they aren't metaes, then what would they be? I know they are not pandas.

They look like metaes to me however metaes dorsal fin is usually completely black...but it could just be a little washed out in yours. The only other option is C. melini but I don't think they're very common and they body shape is a little different. I say metae!

Yep, those are C. metae.

The only other one I'd consider would be C. davidsandsi, but that species is distinguished by its lighter-colored, more elongated body.

Yes, they are definitely C. metae. We have C. davidsandsi and C. melini (the two cory species most similar to C. metae), but your fish don't look like either of the two.

If your cories are looking a little faded, it could well be stress. Give them some tlc, and they will most likely start looking better. Good luck with your cories!

Yes they are deffinetly the masked corie (corydoras metae). I ended up buying this specific species of cory because I had two pandas but the lfs didn't have anymore and I felt that they were close enough in coloration to make the pandas happy. They shoal with each other too. Here is a pic of my matae (masked) and panda cories together...

Was someone saying that is not what you have?

Originally there was a small degree of confusion, because I mentioned that C. metae and C.melini look very similar. However, the key distinguishing point is this. Look at the catfish from directly above. C. metae has the black band running continuously down the back, before the colour descends along either side of the caudal peduncle. In this species, the black almost never extends into the tail fin proper. In C. melini, the black band splits in two forkwise (forming a narrow 'Y' shape) as seen from above, before reaching the caudal peduncle, and the black colour frequently extends into the lower lobe of the tail fin. Thanks to the perspective of one of the above shots, I was able to see that the black band does not split, which makes thie fish in the above photographs C. metae.

Yes, thanks again Cali...I tried to get some more pictures specifically "bird's eye view" but with all the new plants and hiding places, they have decided to be quite shy for now...I'm hoping that they will soon again come out of their hiding spots, for now, they dart out a couple at a time, look around, and run back into the Anacharis...Silly, silly corries...Heidi

PS I did get some fairly good shots I believe of the danties, I'm uploading to the computer now and will share soon Heidi
