Try taking a look a while after lights out with a flashlight (not aimed directly at the tank). My loaches like fresh veggies...you could try adding something like that to see if it lures him/her out.

Good news everyone! The missing loach decided to turn up this morning, 4 days after going missing. He was darting around the tank with his 2 mates like he's never left. :%) I've never been so glad to see a fish before!

Veggies (and fruit and even pasta!) are what often get my more reclusive, nocturnal fish out into the open...

edit: sorry about the posting problems, still early for me

Hey All,

I just got 3 botia sidthimunki (hyper little guys, like corys on speed ) on Saturday, and after I put them in my dwarf 15g tank, I went and spent a couple of hours cleaning and pruning my big tank. When I went back to see how these little loaches are doing, I only saw 2 of them! I've gone and lifted the driftwood and rock but couldn't find it anywhere. I've also looked around outside the tank to see if it has jumped out but can't find it. I haven't checked the filter (AC) but I doubt it could've been sucked up through the filter inlet in less than 2 hours. It's been over 24 hours now and I still don't see it (while the other guys are hyper active), so I'm starting to give up hope on ever finding it. Of course this has to happen to my most expensive fish ($15/fish).

Any ideas? Could it bury itself inside the substrate? I don't have any predatory fish in that tank: cory habrosus & hastatus, male Endlers, dwarf pencilfish, and sparkling/pygmy gourami. The weird thing is a male Endler also went missing one day last week and to this day I still don't know whatever happened to him. All I know is one of the other male Endlers is now abnormally fat - maybe he ate the other guy? Either that, or this tank has a black hole in it.

Just be patient & see how it will go. If you haven't found him on the floor, than he's in the tank & he will come out when he's hungry. Loaches like to hide alot & they just find the most difficult place to hide in.

Honestly, dont even bother searching, when loaches want to hide, they hide. Be patient and look out for him during feeding times. Hopefully, he is only a little shy

He's only about 2cm long. I've looked everywhere around the tank and don't see it. I hope you're right that he'll turn up eventually, although how would it survive without food?

Thanks!

Check the filter (could have jumped up into the box) and check the FLOOR as it may have bounced out.

Otherwise, just wait It'll show

how big is your loach?well, this 'problem' is quite common. If they really want to hide..there is nothing you can do but wait.DO NOT remove the driftwood or anything else from the aquarium because he might be hiding in there.
