Try and find a picture, we need a little more to work with. With so many common names among dealers its hard to tell.

ok did my own research and they're peaceful and don't get very big, and as I found out, a very good clean up crew, don't let anything sit on the bottom for more than 2 seconds. I'm not sure if they eat snails or like to school...so any help on that would be great.

oh and their scientific name is Acanthocobitis urophthalmus

Ah, fishbase, I love that site.

I know clown loaches eat snails like there's no tomorrow, not sure about the smaller botia species however. Your mountain loach might prey upon the smaller snails and their eggs due to their appetite for all things small and invertebrate, which wouldn't be a bad thing at all unless you want more snails.

well once i had a zipper loach http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/fw/profile.asp?id=Acanthocobitis+botia and he cleared my 20g of snails. and since the mountain loach is also an Acanthocobitis, id guess they'd be somewhat similer. And as for them schooling, i dunno sorry.
