A pictus cat will grow to be about 4-5 inches. They are peaceful fish but they can become aggresive as they get older, feeding on small fiah such as neons. You can feed pictus shimp pellets, they will also accept tropical flake, and algea waffers.

I agree. Pictus Cats get much bigger than 4-5 inches. They get up to 12" and should be kept in anything larger than a 55gal....They will eat small fish species and just about anything that will fit in there mouth....I would not plan on keeping this in your 30gal very long....If your planning on increasing your tank soon, then you will be fine for a while....They dont grow that large over night..
But, again if you dont have plans for upgrading within est.6 months or so, this isnt a good choice for your tank.
Or if you have smaller fish already in there as well....

There are a lot of different answers on size because pictus cats have a couple of look alikes! Depending on which fish you really have you are looking at anywhere between 4 inches to just under a foot.

You will know very soon as the 4-6 inch true pictus is not a paticularly fast grower past 3-4 inches. The slowdown will be your tell tale sign. If the fish continues to grow very rapidly you'll be looking at a much larger fish. Catfish tend to grow rapidly and then slow as they near their respective max sizes.

You have seen a variety of cat, but do check the fishbase and argue with them if you'd like. I know I don't have the credentials to argue with a degreed ichthyologist.

The cited text for the information:

Baensch, H.A. and R. Riehl, 1985. Aquarien atlas. Band 2.. Mergus, Verlag fr Natur- und Heimtierkunde GmbH, Melle, Germany. 1216 p.562

I don't argue with fish people with PHDs. Largest one I have personally seen was 12 years old and with tail 8 inches. Like most catfish if they are gorged they can reach larger than normal sizes. The big cats like the red tail cat is in the same family. So yes I believe you, and yes I believe larger over-fed specimens are possible; but the cited professionals agree on 4.3 inches. Truth be told my little pictus sure isn't getting much bigger than that, and I've had him awhile.

Another thing is that pictus are really active, too active for a 30g IMO, and they are schooling and depending on the species they get like 10''.
