Yes, your tank is lovely. I can tell from your picture that the pandas are already feeling at home on the rock formations. Sure hope it works and you can find some more pandas.

So I went and got a school of 7 Albino corys. My gravel was nasty just from feeding the fish, even though I had just gravel vacced the day before, it looked like I hadn't. The morning after I got them, the gravel was as clean as can be So for now i'll keep my fongers crossed. Thanks for the suggestions everyone

It should be fine. You have tank decorations that they could lay on and get to the top.

I just feed my corys Brine Shrimp flakes today.. so cute they look they they are eating Spaghetti.

They are very hardy fish. I was going to buy these myself over the weekend, but deceided to get the peppered cory instead. 75cents cheaper per fish over here. Bought 7

Very cute little buggers

Albino corys just might work, but are they a little less sensitive than the Pandas....I don't want to have the same problem. What does everyone think?

Albino corys - should look good with your black gravel.

And they breed alot easier. So free fish :%)

Hmmmm..I like how they look, but it's a tall tank. Therefore, not the typical bottom area for them. They get to be 3 inches, and if they need to be in a school, I think that might be a little too much. Keep 'em coming!

hmmm.....striped loach? (botia striata)...they're great schooling fish, don't just laze on the bottom of the tank, look great, and have character too

Well bad news, 2 more Pandas have died:#( and another looks very sick...he is very white and not doing very good. I'm not sure what to do now, I'm down to two. I thought maybe i'd stick it out with the Pandas, but it appears to me that it just isn't going to work. So back to the drawing board people, I need some more ideas for a catfish for this tank. I have looked at the suggestions, but haven't quite found what i'm looking for. Again i'm open to a school or a single catfish, and remember it's black gravel so something with a little bit of contrast and something that does what a catfish does....you know?

Oh yes.Otocinclus are fun. Get them acclimatised and happy in your aquarium, and they're wonderfully diligent algae feeders. And since one of mine lived to be over 9 years old, there's a good chance you could eb playing host to them for a good while yet.

I had to take him back and give my LFS the riot act for giving me the wrong ID, again! I needed a good algae eater, plus I was hearing driftwood was a must and had none, nor did I have the room to put a peice. So I settles for Ottos and their doing great!

Well I hate to have to admit this, but I made a mistake in choosing Panda corys for my 29 gal. hexagon tank. I have 2 Angels, a school of Harlies and 4 Ottos housed in it, but the Pandas are just not working out. I know I am to blame, not realizing they would have a hard time in a tall tank such as mine. Plus the Angels are harrassing them a little. So unfortunalty I have to find them a new home, and figure out what kind of catfish will work in this kind of tank. I would have like to go with a different type of cory school, but I think that will just not work. So I am thinking of maybe a single catfish, maybe something that will get about 3-4 inches, and be ok with these tankmates. Any ideas are very much appreciated.

BTW In case I confused you, I am looking for a catfish that will do what a catfish does best, eat all the crap!

Well I couldn't really find anything I want, and I think i'm having second thoughts. So I went out today and bought this new snap together rock setup. I bought 2 of them so I could get maximum height. I got it about 12" high, and the Pandas have already started to hide in the bottom portions. I'll give this a try and see if this can make them happier. Hopefully I can make this work. I've lost a couple so i'm down to 4 and the LFS didn't have anymore right now so hopefully I can fill out the school soon and get them going again. Thanks everyone for helping, keep your fingers crossed, I know I will. Here are some pics....

A quick trip to PlanetCatfish.com should give you LOTS of information on Doradids. The entries are grouped by Family if you select the appropriate option in the Cat-E-Log. When you select "List all species grouped by Family" from the list of links in the right hand frame, the fishes are listed in the left hand frame, grouped by Family. Just scroll the contents of the left hand frame until you see "Doradidae", then click on a species.

For example, here is the profile for the Raphael Cat, Platydoras costatus:

Raphael Catfish

Check sizes carefully if you decide to browse the other species in the family, as some Doradids can exceed 2 feet!
