I've never kept plec's before... but I was thinking of looking for a small pretty one for my 20 gallon... any suggestions? other inhabitants are 3 yo yo loaches and 3 boesmani rainbows.

edit: it is extremely likely that I will move the yo yo's to my 29 gallon, and I may or may not decide to sell the rainbows. other info, I do have driftwood in this tank and it is light to moderately planted, though I'd like to add more plants.

Hi Devon
All your fish get too large for a 20g tank.
I would not suggest adding a pleco.

thanks, I should actually just delete this post because I think I am moving the yo yo's to my 29 gallon and I may sell the rainbows as well... maybe I will just edit the original post...

A BN would be Ok in a 20Gal. with Plants & Driftwood, but first see what other fish are you going to add.

As jasonpisani said, it will depend on what you plan on putting in the tank. If I may, I sugest a school of 6-10 tetras (depending on size), a centerpiece like a dwarf gourami or a pair of rams, and your plec.

You said you've never kept plecs before... be warned that no matter what species you get, at first you will hardly see it. After being in the tank a couple months, it will start to emerge during feeding time. Any species you get will love to hang out on the driftwood.

Here's a list of the most commonly found smaller plec species:

[link=clown pleco]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/clownpanaque.xml" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link]
~These plecos actually don't eat algae, they munch on driftwood and veggies.

[link=bristlenose]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/triradiatusbn.xml" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link]
~A great algae eater with a fact that you either love or hate. Males are bushier than females.

[link=queen arabesque pleco]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/L260.xml" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link]
~These are more carnivorous, so they won't eat algae, but a gorgeous fish.

[link=rubber pleco]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/L56.xml" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link]
~Eats alage and veggies, but may dig up any plants in the tank.

Just to add a few things:

Queen arabesques, like all ploricariids, are omnivorous. However, the loaches will likely spook and/or outcompete them.

rubbernoses are to be kept in cooler waters, and depending on what species of loach, they might be incompatible due to temperature differences.
