can you tell me what you know about these catfish. I am interested in getting some. I have read the profile, I just wanted a little input. 55 gallon, 2 aqua tech filtration systems running, live and silk plants, large cave plenty of hiding, submersible heater, water paramaters fine, fish doing well.
1 black lancer
2 salt and pepper corys (hoping to get some more soon)
5 giant danios
5 tiger barbs
3 blue gouramis
2 gold gouramis
6 mixed fruit tetras
1 peacock eel
1 guppy
3 albinoc african clawed frogs *yes, I KNOW, they eat fish...one of them is a quick little sucker..already gotten 2 tiger barbs and a danio...i'm working on getting them another tank.
1 common pleco
is this over stocked?
everyone seems fine
25% to 30% water changes weekly
:%)

Personally i would consider your tank overstocked as the total length of adult fish compared to your tank size is way over normal limits (i,m guessing its a 4 ft tank). So i would not advise a pictus to add to all that you already have, especially as like the frogs the pictus can take anything that fits its moouth so small fish are best not kept with them.

Gibson SG you know you want one!!

IMO a 55 is too small if there are other bottom feeders. Common plecos get large, and produce alot of waste. Rather than adding more schooling fish you really should take care of getting the ones you have into the proper sized schools and or trading them back to your LFS.
Because pictus are very active the only way I'd reccomend them for something as small as a 55 is if they were the only bottom feeders.

2 that worry me are the pleco, he would need a 75 really, and that is a minimum. The corys (as I'm sure you know since you're planning on getting more) need schools of 6 or more. I'd get the frogs out first thing though...no good expanding the cory schools if they're just going to get eaten .
The corys will do a better job of getting all the leftovers than the picti will anyway, not to mention how much more amusing they will be

As a side note, the "mixed fruit tetras" are dyed fish. While some people have no problem with buying fish that have been put thru the process, I personally find it cruel and unnecessary, I'd suggest you refrain from buying any more of them .

actually the guy at wal-mart told me that they were dyed after he had bagged them up for me. I find it cruel and unusual as well, and i would not have bought them if he hadn't already went through all the trouble for me. I guess at least they have a better home now...
