Top temperature for these fish would be around 24-25 degrees celsius, anything over that and they seem to struggle and minimum temp is around 18 c. They also enjoy the company of other hillstreams so if you can get a couple more your loach will be much happier

If anyone does plan to setup a tank just for these guys then here is a great article [link=http://www.loaches.com/hillstream_loaches.html]http://www.loaches.com/hillstream_loaches.html" style="COLOR: #C000C0[/link]

Following that I setup a 20g long tank for a group of homaloptera and had a few spawning attempts but only managed to raise 1 fry.

Hillstream loach to me too. I have heard accounts of them being a little aggressive, though that link should help.

Best thing to do, I've been told, when setting up an aquarium for current-loving Balitorines is this. Set up a powerhead at one end of the tank directing a current across the surface. At the other end, set up a power filter whose current is directed along the bottom over the substrate. The fast turnover this creates usually ensures decent oxygenation. And provides the fishes with something approximating to natural conditions. And, if one is going to set up an aquarium specially for them, long, shallow aquaria are the way to go. With, if funds allow, more than one power filter. Rounded stones strategically placed on the substrate to give them 'rest spots' is another good idea.

Hillstream loaches also need very highly oxygenated water to survive. The flatter their body(like that one) the higher current, more oxygen, and generally cooler water they come from. If you don't have a good splash from a hob or lots of surface movement from powerheads they usually don't make it.

Ah, link worked for me, but picture was a bit blurry. Looked like a hillstream loach to me too, though I was thinking more along the lines of one of the Pseudogastromyzon species (a.k.a Borneo Suckers).

However, the majority of hillstream loaches, as RustyBlade has already pointed out, like things cool. 18°C to 20°C being typical. Some species will tolerate temperatures as low as 12°C for short periods.

Also, might be a good idea to give that fellow some current. Hillstream loaches tend to like fast currents and lots of oxygen.

Balitorines are fun. I might branch out there myself someday.

A word of warning with these guys(Beaufortia kweichowensis), if you are keeping it in a tropical tank, try to make sure the temp isn't that high because they prefer cooler waters with loads of movement
I had 3 that I ended up loosing through the summer months because the tank just got too hot for them

Your link doesnt work. It asks us to sign in.

Have you looked thru the profiles section or called your LFS for a name?
