or just overfed today? I guess time will tell, but meanwhile I feel there is something I should do to help her. Have a pair I bought just 2 weeks ago. They were the only 2 in the tank at the lfs. Bought him first, didn't even know what he was but like the way he was pushing over big pieces of rock with his tiny nose. Went back for the other the next day and he was so excited to see her they've been dancing circles around each other, not to mention olympic quality synchronized swimming, ever since. So I figured they could very well be male/female. Also he is slightly larger and slightly more vivid in color.

Well she's been lazy all day, her tummy is swollen and her color has brightened, the yellow looks more like a bright pinkish gold. She's not too lethargic because once in a great while she'll swim to another spot. But when she's not swimming she's kinda listing off to the side.

I did put in too much freeze-dried bloodworm for lunch today, but everyone else is fine. If she is pregnant there is not a lot of hiding places to lay. There a plants and rocks but no caves. There is no info on the breeding of these that I can find at the usual places on the net. It's a 70 gal tank and I did a cleaning last night. Only other fish in there at this time are 2 robustus cory, 3 baby cae and 11 tetras, so I'm not toooo worried about fry getting eaten. Should I move her (and him) to another tank or would that stress her too much? He's not rowdy with her at all, ever so gently nudges her once in a while to get her to swim. Should I put something in that will work as a cave? I really want her to succeed, but mainly I want her to survive, of course. Has anyone here ever had experiences with loaches breeding? Are they livebearers? I'm wooorrried, off to find more info...

still watching her closely... She is staying in a crevice, nice little spot in the rocks, so well hidden I can't tell if she is still fat. She occasionally moves from side to side but has not come out even to eat today. She's being so still I worried she had died til I saw her gills moving. Anyone experienced w/egglayers please tell me: Do they cease normal swimming/eating for more than 24 hrs when ready to lay? Any other info on egglaying behavior of bottom fish would be greatly appreciated.

OMG! I'm so excited and worried at the same time. I'm sitting here staring at her wondering what's wrong and if she'll survive and from the same crevice come swimming 2 baby fry!!! Itty bitty babies been hiding... I mean, they're not loaches, I think they're platies that apparently survived after I took adults out of the tank, but I'm going nuts! :%) Wonderful, worrisome, wacky world under water!

Well I sure can get excited over nothing! The botia is just fine. Apparently her tummy was from overeating, and she (it) is hiding because the other one is territorially dominant, but it's not keeping her from finding food! So went out today and bought #3

I talk to myself too
