Sad to say this but my Algae eater is gone. I really do not want to get another one but I need a fish to eat any food from the bottom of the tank, that will go with cichlids and most of all not get too big and aggressive with age.

What size is the tank?

Are you looking for a bottom feeder or a algae eater? There are very few fish that do both well.

I would recommend bristlenoses (algae eater) or some kind of Synodontis species (bottom feeder).

If you have some hiding places & a piece of Bogwood/Driftwood, then get a Bristlenose.
They are very good Algae eaters & really lovely.

You could do any of the following, assuming you get only semi-aggressive to mildly aggressive fish:
A larger species of corydoras, (Bronze, Albino, metae, Peppered- A group of 6-8)
A type of Syno Catfish (Upside Down Cats (4-6), Featherfin Syno (1)
Raphael Catfish (1)- these come in striped or spotted), Banjo Catfish (1-2),
Whiptail Catfish (2),
Twig Catfish (2),
Botia - Polka Dot, Queen, YoYo, Zebra (group of 4 of 1 type)
For Algae specifically: Bristlenose Pleco, Royal Pleco, any type of Ancistrus Pleco (though some dont always eat a ton of algae), Queen Arabesque Pleco
Hope that helps! Several of these fish could probably also tolerate a more aggressive group of fish- the larger or more tough varieties, ask if you need to know which.
If you were to go with more aggressive fish, you would want to pick a different type of bottom feeder according.
Keep in mind African Cichlids are like often 10X more aggressive than most Americans Cichlids!
Good Luck!
