My cories seem to not be active at all during the day unless i feed them. I know this is quite normal but they never come out and they hide all day in a cave I have for them. I have 5 or 6 of them not too sure because I have only see five of them when i feed them. I can't remember if one died not too long ago. I have 2 bronze cories, 2 (or 3) blue cories which arent blue but more of a brownish colour and 1 peppered cory. It's along story how I have them all assorted and not one type. I originally had 6 blue cories... and 3 died off so when i went back to my lfs they didnt have them anymore and I saw cories in a tank labelled "Assorted Cories" that looked as if they were blue cories but as they grew they got much bigger and I saw that they were bronze cories. I also found a little surprise in the bag when I bought the bronze cories. A peppered cory got into the bag somehow. But as of now they all hang out together but are very shy. What should i do? I also have 3 ottos but when recently died and now the other 2 hide with the cories..

How big is the tank? What other occupants are in the tank? Are all the water parameters OK?

My thought is, it is likely because they arent in large enough groups
If you had 6 of each type they would
be much more active and around
If you got them recently wait a few weeks,
sometimes fish are shy when new.

I agree that they need to be in a school of their own type. When i bought the bronze cories they looked similar to the blue cories since my blue cories are almost the same colour so i didn't know. My water parameters are fine and I've had the fish forrrr months now. Its a 32 gallon tank with 6 cardinal tetras ( I plan to expand the school to 8), 6 black neons, 5 danios, an angelfish, the 6 cories and 2 ottos ( 1 just died. I have a Fluval 204 running on the tank.

You really need more corriesdon't anybody snitch on me, I'll admit it But, really the more corries you have the more active they are...I have about 40 or so of them now, though I too have trouble keeping track of how many I'm up to as the metaes seem to be quite happy, and now I'm noticing what I know are a couple of Dainty Cory juvenile/fry as well

I know at first my metaes were quite shy and would hide in the back of the tank. The Dainties would and still do play in the airstone bubbles. When I added the albinos they became more active, and again when I added the Schwartzi (sp?) even more active still...And so on and so forth...I'm not going to necessarily agree that you have to have a good size school of all the same, though sometimes it can helpbut a larger school of similar sized corries will definately help with the shyness...so break down and go get some more...you said the tank was a 32 gallon? You only have 5 or 6 (I'm willing to say 6 they are good at hiding and head counting can be hard at times) go get another 5-10 of them, a bit crowded but they will be more active, just be sure to keep up with the water changes and keep your filtration at it's best, and you should be good...good luck, and enjoy, heidi

Fill out the schools you have if you can't get something of similar size when fully grown and you'll be great, or go and get a whole other school
