Skunk loaches have been known to show an aggresive side.

See the thread [link=here]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Bottom%20Feeder%20Frenzy/55831.html" style="COLOR: #FF82AB[/link] for some info and personal experience

Yup, they can be somewhat aggressive. Also, they prefer being kept in groups like other loaches. If you want to keep this fish happy, you should get it two friends.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Bettachris, did you read through the thread I linked to? Click on the pink [link=this]http://fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Bottom%20Feeder%20Frenzy/55831.html?200503060117" style="COLOR: #FF82AB[/link] to read another thread about skunk loaches, which includes personal experience of their aggression.

Shannen:
Quote from the profile.

"This peaceful loach has been reported from a very limited number of sources as being semi-aggressive in the form of nipping long or flowing fins. This behavior has not been noticed by the majority of loach keepers."

Well my friends make Jamie and I 2 more to see the aggressive behavior.

They ate gup babies, they shredded male gups, and are now shredding long finned barbs.

Me:
He found out real quick! He put them in a 29g community and now EVERYONE in that tank has nipped fins. Now he has to rework everything to accomodate those stinking loaches!

Skunk loaches belong in a semi aggressive tank with tiger barbs and the like... fish that aren't afraid to bite back.

CoryAddict:
Yeah, at work we don't even order them anymore, simply because nearly everybody who buys them brings them back complaining that they were being aggressive. And that's after we warned them about their behavior.

We have to keep these loaches in the aggressive SA cichlid stock tanks, because they shred the fins on anything else.

In other words yes, the aggression is a natural behavior found in skunk loaches.

Yes, they have eaten/nipped my fry and have terrorized some of the other fish until we moved them in with some severums...now they seem to know their place and don't seem so bad. I guess you just have to be careful what type of fish you mix them with.

Skunk loaches get more agressive when they feel crowded, or feel like they are not getting enough food. They can easily be apart of a community tank with peaceful fish. It is just a matter of realizing their needs. This is not a fish that can go in a fully stocked or overstocked tank. They can and will become nippy to the point of killing off other fish. They need plenty of hiding places and cover. The happier and more secure they are the better.

I have 3 in my 79 gal with 9 zebra loaches, 18 clown loaches and 5 kuhli loaches. The good thing is, I have little other than loaches in this tank, all are juvenile and everybody has plenty of room, so the skunks keep to terrorizing each other, and the zebras once in a while who give back to them as good as they get it.

It really depends on the tank mates, and if he has the company of other skunks he will fight with his brothers instead of the other tank mates and be happy.
