Is spirulina in all fish foods or is it just in algae wafers etc? I've been told its great for clown loaches but I didn't think they ate algae flakes/wafers/sinking pellets/sticks etc.

Does anyone else feed their clown loaches algae?

By the way, what is spirulina?

It should say it on the indregidents if it doesn't it doesn't have it. I have the wafer and also sticks that float that contain spirulina. The stick that floats swell up, so if you do ever get some, soak them water before feeding to avoid them swelling up in some smaller fish stomach.

Spirulina is Blue Green Algae. It will only be contained in foods if on the label. I believe most flake foods contain some spirulina, but otherwise the best types are foods labelled as "Spirulina" or "algae" wafers. I Believe clown loaches are more like most loaches, and prefer a meatier diet supplemented with fresh veggies and algae wafers. There are several good types of wafers for bottom feeders, Hikari Bottom Feeder Wafers, and Hikari Algae Wafers. Wardley makes a good cheap basic algae wafer. I have Nutrafin Sinking Pellets for Bottom Feeders and Invertebrates, and the fish seem to love them, espescially my loaches, gold nugget plec and flying fox. There is also a great great food made by HBH called 8 Veggie Delite- it comes in a 8 veggie flake and an 8 veggie wafer. The fish adore this food a lot, espescially the vegetarian fish. Shrimp pellets are also good.
Im sure your clown loaches would love any type of fresh veggies, my polka dot and queen botias love zuchinni, and I have heard they will eat tomatoes, pears, any type of squash (pumpkin, zuchinni, acorn, spaghetti etc), and cory addict feeds her corys with freeze dried tubifex that she attaches to a rock with an elastic band, and Im sure your clowns would love that as well.
Loaches are pretty easy to please, anything that smells good must taste good, or so they seem to say!

yep...

Freeze dried tubifex worms
Frozen (thawed) bloodworms
Slices of fresh zucchini (courgette) or cucumber
A raw shrimp weighted and sunk
Small snails from the garden (yech!) but only if there are no poisonous snail-baits around
Bits of cooked peas, corn, beans or carrots
Plus all the usual commercially-available sinking foods
