Got up this morning fed fish before leaving for work & spoted something small moveing about on the gravel turns out on further inspection their are 2 young peppered corys in the tank big suprise. As a matter of intrest does anybody know how many young they normally have,& how do you tell when they are acually breeding so as I can watch out for signs & maybe have a higher survival rate assumeing they have more young than 2 at a time. *lol

Peppered cories will lay 50-80 eggs. They take a tad longer to hatch compared to many other egglayers, however, and in that time, many could have been eaten.

Thanks for that I dont suppose the eggs are vissible to the naked eye so they could be moved to a small breding tank the type suspended in the main tank,I also supose the 2 large ehime profesinal filters that are running may have accounted for some fry.

Actually, the eggs are rather large and very visible, especially when the fry get darker. They are often found on the glass or on plants.

To remove them, just gently nudge them off with your finger or a plastic card.

Good then I will in future be more dilegent & keep a closer look out for eggs of any description although now I am looking it probably wont occur again as any breeding with-in the tank is purley by chance as it is a display tank not really set-up for purposfull breeding as in raising/lowering temps ect.
Any how thanks for the information as it is always good to know what to look for.

Corydoras paleatus can lay as many as 150 eggs in one spawning session. As cited in the TFH back number in my possession in an article on keeping and breeding the species by Hans Joachim Richter, who, as one of the world's foremost aquarists, should know
