What type of algae is it?

I believe Queen Arabesque plecos eat algae, but I'm not exactly sure...

If queens ate algae, my 20 gallon would not be covered in the stuff.

Probably THE best looking algae eating plec for your 45 gallon would either be a sultan pleco or a golden green spot hypostomus.

In that case, you may as well just get a BN or an otto---covers most types of algae.

It's hard to think of things when all the good looking plecos are illegal/rare/expensive where you live.

If they are that expensive, you should just stick with a BN or SAE...

I think BNs are quite cool-looking, and they're certainly great algae eaters. Jordanella floridae is a pretty fish and likes hair algae. Zebra otos are very very cute.

You could get an albino longfin Bristlenose. They are pretty sharp looking and relatively common over here. I think if you get a breeding pair they are also relatively easy to breed. Not 100% on that though. If they are and you get some, with pleco's being so expensive across the pond, you could probably make some pretty decent money selling off the little ones.

Best algae eaters are the BNs and the rubber plecos. Don't put more than one rubber in that tank though, less one will starve.

BNs all the way. i have 3 in my tank all males and at first they seem to be ugly but you grow to luv em. they have great personalities and i know people will tell me this was way off, but it worked for me, i had 3 male Bns in a small 50 litre tank!! they wud chase each other but the only real problem is that they like to poo alot.
IMO Bns are the bees knees

1- candystriped(clown) Pleco = Nice, pretty, and hardy, but don't like algae all that much. Instead, they will feed on meaty veggies and wood/fiber.
2- farowella catfish = Shy to a fault, interesting, and very, very demanding. A great algae eater, but starves often. Requires strict adherence to perfect and stable water quality. and even then will, on ocasion, konk out on you. Short lived in the home aquaria.
