Tiger plecos are a type of Peckoltia (clown) pleco from the the Middle Amazon. Grows to 4", feed sinking wafers (not algae wafers) as a staple diet. Peaceful. Likes soft water, a current, and absolutely must have a piece of driftwood to eat.

King Tigers? The tan/brown kinds that grow to almost 6" long? How much?

Yea, they are exactly like the ones on planetcatfish listed under king tiger plec except a nice bright coloration (like the top left pic on planet catfish). They are about 5" and selling for $50, but i would be getting them for $32.50 each if i bought them.

The fish you showed Amilner is a Tiger Shovelnose, not a King Tiger Plec. At least you tried is the main thing. One tip, always check Planet Catfish for info on them before just searching the net for them. Planet Catfish will have the info your looking for 90% (if not 99.99999% of the time).

There are several species of plecos commonly named as "tigers"; the red tiger, the zebra, the king tiger, and a plecostomus sp. The Red tiger is a medium sized plec, and is omnivorous, as it will eat just about anything that hits the ground. It is somewhat sensitive to differences in pH and temperature. They look somewhat like zebra plecs, except with a redish hue to them. The zebra, on the other hand, is a smaller plec, and primarily feeds on meaty foods, such as black/bloodworms and brine shrimp. They are fairly hardy fish. King tigers (as I've never really seen one at full grown specimen, I assume they pretty large) are rather blandly marked plecs, as their markings are reminicent of standard sailfins, notable only by the more distinguished scrawled whitish lineage which is more ounced. Id assume they are herbivorous, but dont quote me on that. As stated above, all three fetch relatively high prices, as they are (for the most part) wild caught. Dont forget the driftwood.

Ive never heard of a zebra plec being called a tiger before. The kind tigers do not get large, i would give one 6" max (although planet cat has 4.8" listed). King tigers are not bland, they have some beatiful markings (like the one i plan on bringing home soon ).

King tigers eventually lose their tannish hue when they hit adulthood. Seeing as they should grow much larger than 5", you've nabbed yourself a good deal. Also, I'm not quite sure which L-species the King Tiger is off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure there was one up for bid a few weeks ago. If rare plecs suit your fancy, you might also wanna head over there right now and check out that sultan plec they have up, although it doesn't seem to have any warranty on it (2 green phantoms were up for 25 buck yesterday, too).

Last I checked the King Tiger was L-66. A nice fish; I've always wanted one.
