Get the Angels outta there! It 30g for 1 angel then an extra 15g for every additional angel. I know they are small now but it will stunt them

I say add a couple of cories, I think you will still have enough space. Take him back to the pet store and he will probably be DOOMED. Plus, you can always upgrade that 10g to a 20 gal at a minimal cost. Ive got a few cories in a 20 gal with 2 rams and 3 angel fish and they are just fine (although I plan to upgrade it to a 55g soon so the angels will have space) But thus far, its been a great home for the rams and the cories.

ok, now does anybody know if they are tbhe types that are ok in smaller groups or no? I know Barbatus (pretty sure thats the old name) like to stay on there own or in groups of 2 like and then pygmus (or pygmae or something similar) need groups of 6 or they can get ill or feel very stressed

I would say keep it if you can but try to move it to the 29g with some more friends. What species of Cory is it for a start? Some do better on there own than others.

clown pl*cos and butterfly pl*cos aren't the best algae eaters anyway. i'm with Sand in that more waste = more nutrients = more algae coz pl*cos are quite messy
the only thing i would consider adding would be shrimp.

Devon. I have a 20 long next to a window and also had algae issues. it was so bad the water always had a green cast to it. i fixed it buy adding an extra filter ( a small whisper) used a algaecide that was safe for plants and fish, and covered the back (which is where most of the sun was) with one of those pieces of "Backround" paper.
PLUS, I do more water changes. Actually the extra filter made a big difference, but doing ALL of the things that I mentioned totally fixed the issue. And it wasn't overstocked. Just the sun was the issue, though the fish loved the sun.
I think adding more fish may only cause more problems bcuz then you'll have more waste = more nutrients = more algae.

I have 1 cory that was one of my very first fish in my 10 gallon which was my first real tank. I didn't know at the time that they should be kept together in groups. He is still in that tank, and I am getting ready to put 2 rams and 3 otos in and they were going to be the only inhabitants...

I was planning on bringing the cory to the LFS so he could be with more of his own kind, but then the thought occured to me... i LOVE this fish!!! he has never seemed unhealthy or unhappy and has been in this tank for like 8 months without other corys. he is active and eats like a pig and is ALWAYS moving... I hardly EVER catch this fish napping! his colors look fine and he has never had any illness. So do you think maybe I can leave him with the 3 otos and 2 rams or will he truly be better off going back to the store so he can live with other corys?

also, I am probably going to return my 6 lazy corys from my 29 gallon because i NEVER see them and they are always sleeping. so that would leave me completely coryless! which is why I want to hang on to this guy, hes so cute and happy looking all the time

heh, yeah but its the 10 gallon that needs algae control, not the 29, so i dont think a BN would be so great in there with 2 rams

this is a 10 gallon he is in. the otos will be on algae duty so i'm not worried about the other fish not eating it. The way my tanks will work out when fully stocked is this:

10 gallon:
2 rams
3 otos

29 gallon: (yes i know its muchly overstocked but my fish tanks are one of the few things i take good care of )
6 harlequin rasboras
6 cardinal tetras
2 male swordtails
2 angels (I'm getting them at a very small size so hopefully they will get used to the cardinals as tankmates and not supper :-P)
6 corys

do you think that 2 rams, 3 otos, and 2 corys would be way too overstocked in a 10 gallon? for a filter I just have an aquaclear mini on it, as opposed to the penguin 330 i have on my 29 gallon...

and the GOOD news, I saw my 6 lazy corys out and about today! this is really the first time i've seen them venture out of the plants while i was there, maybe they're still getting used to me still not sure if i want to trade them for 3 yo-yo loaches though.

Corys dont really eat algae. Neither will rams or yoyo loaches. You would be better off with a Bristlenose.
I would keep the cory. He should be ok, if he has been ok this long. Could you possibly give him 1 friend? Maybe 1 of the ones you are getting rid of?
What size tank is the lone cory in?

well I've already ordered the rams and i desparately need an algae crew due to intense amounts of indirect sunlight that tank gets, and the corys in my 29 gallon are most likely getting exchanged for some yo-yo loaches because they are lazy and sleep all day. plus they kinda blend in with the gravel which makes them even MORE invisible.

Maybe you could add that cory to your 29? Or if you haven't gotten the rams/ottos get cories instead?
