They get a nice size, so you will need a 30 plus gallon tank. They prefer brakish water and are not aggressive. They go good any brakish water fish as long as that fish is not aggressive.

They are strictly filter feeders and eat like pigs, you you're going to be buying a lot of baby brine shrimp and plankton for it.

A coolwater brackish tank is necessary for this species, as they are native to the eastern coasts of North and Central America.

A friend of mine kept one in a 30 breeder brackish set up and fed it well with frozen mysis and brine shrimp. Its only tankmates were a pair of mudskippers who ignored the shrimp once it reached the tank bottom. Although lengthy (1'1/2", but I've heard of them reaching at least 2') they're not supra active and tend to be reculsive during the day.

I suppose it depends on the indivdual. We have a 10" specimen in a tank, and it swims against the glass almost non stop. Also, they will prey on small fishes.
