what kind of algae eater is small enough to go into a 20 gallon tank?

it has one real plant, one fake, some fake rock hidey type things, and lots of algae!

other fish are:
1 leopard danio
1 dwarf gourami
3 harlequin rasboras
3 red phantom tetras

I would say a bristlenose catfish, or some otocinclus. You might need some more plants if you wanted the ottos, however.

I'd recommend a piece of driftwood and a Bristlenose Catfish for that tank. He'll be rather hardy and should clean up that mess in no time

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

A Bristlenose will do a great job. Just add a piece of Driftwood & your Algae will vanish in a few days.

The BN would be good, although for a 20 you might want to look at the Rubbernose/mouth//Bulldog Plec (sorry, I don't recall the species name on it). You also may want to look at the underlying causes for the algae. More live plants would compete with the algae for nutrients; more water changes would take out some of the nutrients; less light and/or less fish would also have a positive impact.
