They are just a captive-bred leucistic form of the Chinese Algae Eater. That means they are mean, they get huge (25cm long), and once they get past a few inches in length, they also stop eating algae.

They are also coolwater fish, and their best tankmates are medium to large size fast-moving minnows and other cyprinids. Slow or disc-shaped fish will become victims to this fish's semiparasitic behavior of sucking off slime coats.

Yes, these things get big. I saw a 10 inch specimen of the natural colour variety at Chester Zoo aqauarium a few years back and it was mean-looking ....

IME, not a good community tank fish. Mine stopped eating algae after a month and hit up the slime coat instead.

I really don't know about these claims... I've kept two chinese algae eaters to around 5" (I gave them to my sister, who has an algae problem).

They didn't stop eating the algae, and they're not at all agressive. But, mine is also the "normal" color morph-- perhaps there's a difference? I've had good experiences with these fish....

I've also had a reasonably good experience with these fish: they do tend to bully one another around, though. Slime coat sucking primarily occurs in overcrowded situations. They also continue to eat algae throughout their lives, though they do depend more and mroe on crude protein as they reach maturity.
