I've had 2 angelfish in my 4ft tank for about 9 months, and they're the latest introduction, but just recently they've been more agressive than usual towards my gouramis.

They're only about 2 inches from snout to base of tail, and they're not always in a pair, but could they be feeling breeding urges and getting territorial?

The only things that have changed recently was some of the plants got pruned, one gourami passed away and they were getting live food once or twice a week.

Are my angels old enough to breed and what could i do to protect my gouramis? If i have to move tbe angels the next largest tank i have is a 15gal, which probably wouldn't be big enough for them.

Hi Ferox,

Your angels are definately breeding age. If you've had them 9 months, they're at least a year old.

Angels being cichlids can be territorial, when breeding get even more so. Inspect your gouramis closely to see if they are stressed at all or suffering any damage. Also, do the gouramis have caves to hide in ? If you have to move fish, I'd move the gouramis to the 15g.
Give them a plant tank

Angels can breed when they are 9/10 months old & i think that they're getting aggressive, because they might breed.

There's a selection of pots and a tunnel at one end of the tank, driftwood and large crypts in the middle and assorted stem plants on the other side. The gouramis had been showing what i had presumed to be bites. Along the black line that runs snout to tail (pearl gourami btw) there were patches that had faded, so it looked like a dotted line. Melafix seemed to be helping though.

For the safety I would remove the gouramis before the angels do mor damage to them. Or put the Angels into a seperate breeding tank.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

You're referring to marks on the lateral line.
With some fish that area appears to be more 'porous' as it's a high sensory area. Your gouramis may be quite fine.

Check the tails and fins of the gouramis for damage from angels. Anything ? I'd move the gouramis to the 15 anyway to prevent future problems. You may get an angel spawn !

The latreal line had previously been more solid, and the male's fins had been nipped at for a long time. I can't get another tank, so the 15 for the gourami's it is.

Sounds good. Also recommending a Melafix treatment for the recommended dosage.
