My angel is acting very odd the last two days. I have a pair of angels and they spawn quite often. I watched all the telltale signs that they were ready to spawn again (leaf cleaning, protecting a corner) but now the female is just very lethargic and hanging either in the upper corner or lower corner of the tank. It looks like she needs to drop her eggs but won't. I just added some new Rubber Plecos and they are all over that tank, including the typical spot where the angels usually spawn. Do you think she is worried about them?? She looks like she tried to eat tonight, but other than that she is just very still. Looks very very healthy though. What's up with this?

She may be stressed with the new plecos. Try dividing off a part of the tank for her and her mate to breed in (keeping other fish out, of course)

She looks like she is full of eggs. I hope it is not something else in her belly. This will sound weird, but could she be constipated??? I will try to separate the angels from the plecos and see if that works. She does seem to be gasping a bit this a.m. and her mouth is open a lot. I am very worried about my baby, she and her mate are my treasures. I would be sick to lose her.

How's your Angel?.

I think it's better to seperate them from the Pleco's & leave the pair on their own.

She seems a little better this morning, but did not eat last night. This is going to sound crude, but the little tube that comes out when they lay eggs was sticking out and there was a white stringy thing coming out of it (unless that was poo???). It was weird.

[font color="#008000"]I've read that angelfish like to lay their eggs on broad leaved plants protruding from the substrate. I would say do what the other person said to do, with separating the angel and all. Put a plant like an amazon sword plant in the center of the tank, and see if she lays her eggs on that. I don't know if the angel requires a live sword plant, but it is safe to say that it will easily spawn on a real amazon sword than a fake one. I've never bred angels, but this is just some info. that I have read. I've kept angels before.

Good luck with it.

If it was poo, and you suspect it's constipation, feed her a de-shelled pea.

Deshelled peas wont help angelfish.

Clear poop when fish dont spawn usually means it is reabsorbing the eggs, therefore the feces is clear/opaque.

She died. I am almost wondering if fish can have something similar to a "breech birth" ....... she looked full of eggs and her tube was down for a couple of days. This is probably in the wrong forum and I need to take this one to "the hospital." Thanks for the advice everyone.

I am very sorry for your Angel. That's really bad & i really don't know what happened. Did she lay eggs before, or it was the first time?.
