I've only seen ones that are about 4" tall and 5"wide (excluding fins), but I don't doubt that they get larger than that. In my experience they don't grow terribly fast. I've had a juvenile that started out at dime size in my tanks six months ago, and now he's maybe 1.5" tall and wide. Again, that's not counting fins, and since my little guy is a super-veil angel, his tail alone is over 1" already, and his dorsal and ventral fins add about another 1.5" each. For standard angels, it will be slightly less, but they are still fish that require a lot of room. They are also territorial, so a minimum of 20 gallons for the first fish and 10 gallons for each additional fish is not a bad estimate, and in a lot of cases you could easily want more than that. Mine uses all areas of the tank, from hanging out at the top at feeding times, to sculking about the bottom in the evenings, and patrolling back and forth across the front of the tank most of the rest of the time. A big, tall tank is really the best way to go with these guys, and they will reward you for it! ![]() Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |
