Angelfish grow to about 6-8 inches from snout to base of tail, and about 10-14 inches from top to bottom of dorsal and anal fins.
They are quite large fish.

i agree with stated info, really the truth is the body size isn't really important if u are trying to cruch the numbers for an angelfish, with angels u really must include their fins as a problem with keeping angels in a small tank, their body may grow but the fins will look all curved and the fis will be stunted.

but from my past, the largest angel had a length of 5-6 inches(excluding the fins) and height was 5-7(excluding the fins)

but then also with finage, u must take into acount the type of angel u want. either a veil or a standard. veils of course haveing larger, long fins.

Yep I would agree with Chris.
5-8 Inches from snout to base of tail (not including fin)
and 5-8 inches from top to bottom (not including the fins)
Angels require as a bare minimum 25g tall (18"+) or 29G tall for a breeding pair, and 55g for a group of 3 or more.

The bodies alone get very large. I've only seen ones that are about 4" tall and 5"wide (excluding fins), but I don't doubt that they get larger than that.
In my experience they don't grow terribly fast. I've had a juvenile that started out at dime size in my tanks six months ago, and now he's maybe 1.5" tall and wide. Again, that's not counting fins, and since my little guy is a super-veil angel, his tail alone is over 1" already, and his dorsal and ventral fins add about another 1.5" each. For standard angels, it will be slightly less, but they are still fish that require a lot of room. They are also territorial, so a minimum of 20 gallons for the first fish and 10 gallons for each additional fish is not a bad estimate, and in a lot of cases you could easily want more than that. Mine uses all areas of the tank, from hanging out at the top at feeding times, to sculking about the bottom in the evenings, and patrolling back and forth across the front of the tank most of the rest of the time. A big, tall tank is really the best way to go with these guys, and they will reward you for it!

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...
