My single angelfish (in my 37 g.) has "spawned" without a mate two times in the last month. These were her first two, ever, as I have had her since she was very young. I didn't even know she was a female until I discovered her eggs and witnessed her laying/attaching them to the drift wood.

My first inclination was to try and find her a mate so that her eggs can be fertilized. I thought that might please her. However, I know how difficult it might be to: 1) correctly sex a mature male angel and 2) find one that will be "compatible" with her.

So my question is, "What would you do in this situation?" Would you leave her as is and let her continue to "spawn" without a mate every once in awhile, or take your chances with purchasing another fish? All input is appreciated!

personally i'd leave her. the advantages are:

1. No babies
2. No stress on the fish

when you see people with pairs of angelfish they have most likely got a few then waited for them to pair off.

If you know that you have a male, i would put them together & hopefully they'll breed, but if don't know the sex of the Angel, i wouldn't mix them.

Even if you can get a good male for her that does not mean she will accept him.

If you can get several younger fish she will possibly sort out herself a mate.
In the meantime learn as much as you can about caring and raising fry.
