Consider the dwarf South American cichlids - mikrogeophagus ramirezi, m. altispinosa and any of the apistogramma species, my favorites is a. cacatuoides. Also consider some of the "shellies" from Africa, particularly neolamprologus brevis and n. multifasciatus.

Common names: Blue or Butterfly ram (m. ramirezi), Bolivian ram (m. altispinosa), Cockatoo Apistogramma (a. cacatuoides). Common names fail with African cichlids. Copy and paste the Latin or scientific names into your search engine. I highly recommend Google so that you can click the pictures tab!

neolamprologus multifasciatus
neolamprologus brevis
lamprologus ocellatus (blue, black and gold)

they arent super common but i u could find caudos you can find shellies! the occies are usually alot more expensive.

If you decide on shellies multies would be a good choice. They only require minimal substrate and lots of shells. Occies and brevis should be kept in pairs and IMO a 10g=1 pair only. Multies will easily establish a colony in a 10g.
