I just got back from picking up a male and female blue ram. I put them in a well lighted planted aquarium and am currently digging up caves and rocks to make shelters for them. The PH is around perfect and the temp is at 78-80. Do you think that these two will pair off and breed before long or am i going to have to get more females for them to pair off? They are in a 10 gallon aquarium w/no other fish.

Hopefully, you have a male and a female and not two females! I always like to get as group of five and let the pairs sort themselves out. If they are young fish, they are sometimes difficult to sex. You have a better chance of getting a pair if you have a larger group.

You may want to check with your LFS as to the source of the fish. Fish imported from Asia are oftentimes all of one sex. Additionally, the shipping distance will cause stress that is frequently shown by ich.

I know that it is a male and female, for sure, they are not all that young and I can definitely tell the sex.

Rams are very easy to breed. They often show breeding behaviour at the store. Once I baught a pair home from the lfs, popped them in my tank and they started to breed within an hour! Give them a smooth stone to breed on, they don't breed in caves. Breeding part is easy, but raising the fry is very difficult.
