Well if you are getting two and want more fish in there I would try my best to get two females to reduce aggression and so theres no breeding. Anyway I would go with the following: 2 Blue Acaras, 10 Pearl Danios, 8 Gaint Danios, 1 BN. There are lots of other options though. Do you have any interests?

i would like schooling fish from south or central america
to go with the acara(no livebearer's i hate them). i would like to get a male acara because i like the look of the adult males more than the females. i do not want a pair either because i don,t want them to breed. i know that they are fairly aggressive but i want the tank to be more interesting than a couple of big fish. could i put black skirt and serpae tetras in with it? they are pretty active and aggresive for tetras

Blue acaras are actually not aggressive at all unless they are breeding IME. There is always a chance that they may eat smaller tetras, but generally they are pretty peaceful.

Either of the tetras you have mentioned should be fine. They will be too quick for the acara to get hold of even if he does decide to have a go.

Personally, I would go with bristlenose cat/s, cories and some of the tetra that you have mentioned.
