I am getting a Bolivian ram for my community tank. It will have:
2 lace gouramis
8 panda corys
7 cardinals
7 rummy nose tetras
I was wondering if anyone had kept them and if they are aggressive? Do they need to be kept in groups or pairs? Can you keep them singly? what water do they do best in?

Tahnkyou very much!

They really aren't very aggressive at all. They may become slightly territorial come spawning time (not a problem if you don't keep pairs), but they are usually very agreeable fish. They are fine when singly, and pairs work out well too. They like soft, acidic water best, but can tolerate a wide range of conditions. They are hardier than their cousin, the German ram.

Bolivian Rams make great community fish.

They're one of the more peaceful cichlids and generally only show aggresion during spawning time.

Yes they can be kept by themselves as well.

You could have two but I would suggest going with the following:
2 Pearl Gouramis
2 Bolivian Rams
6 Panda Corys
6 Rummys
6 Cards
----The reason for this is that Bolivian Rams are bottom dwellers, and they need the extra space.
If you lowered the cory numbers to 6 you would be fine.
Rams are not hard on the bioload, and are beautiful fish.
Try if you can at all to get a male and a female.
Males look like this:
Bolivian Ram Male
Females lack the tail filaments, however unless they are the same size as mine, it will be very hard to tell.
That male BR is approx. 3 inches body length, not including his gorgeous tail. He is about 1 year in age and is now sexually mature and has been digging nests.

Thanks! I will go with:
2 lace gouramis
2 bolivian rams
6 panda corys
6 cardinal tetras
6 rummy nose tetras
I found some really beautiful Bolivian Rams at one of my lfs. They are about $12.50. Is this a reasonable price.(Australian dollars or course.)

Thanks,

Labrakitty
