First off, anyone here ever buy fish online? I was doing some googling and it looks like it's gonna cost me upwards of 55$ for one female german blue ram. . . I want the fish, but 55$? Shipping costs alone run more than 35$ and the fish itself was 20$. So, anyone know a cheaper website that carries either bolivian rams or german blue rams? Thanks in advance,

Check out:

http://www.aquabid.com/

Look under the apisto's section and you might have better luck there. Shipping is alway going to be a bit expensive, as in most cases you want it delivered to you quick.

I also suggest Aquabid. Even if you don't see an auction for exactly what you want, you can research the sellers themselves and ask questions of them and see if you can't set up a side-deal. Some sellers are happy to do this, and others not so much.
For just one fish, buying online or mail order probably is not the best solution, but I have had very good luck buying fish online and receiving them through the mail, so much so, that I actually prefer it, despite the expense. You are probably never going to get overnight shipping for less than $30, and you don't want to ship live fish with anything but garanteed overnight. Despite the expense of shipping, I have had much better luck with the fish I've bought online than most fish I get in the pet store. They are healthier and live longer, and I don't lose as many in the first few days, despite the stress of shipping. I have also managed to get a number of species that are simply not available at my LFS, and that is also a bonus of paying for shipped fish.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

On Aquabid, you usually find fish like rams sold in pairs or trios. Usually people don't sell only one. If you order from a website other than Aquabid, I'd atleast buy more than one fish, so you don't lose all that money to ship just one fish. And most websites won't sex them for you, so you have to buy a group to get the sex you want...that's my dilemma in wanting a female bolivian ram. I'd look on Aquabid and get either a pair or trio...email the seller before hand and they may be able to give you 2 females (which would be better if you have a male) or get a trio so you'll end up with 2 pairs!

Thats why I haven't ventured into the online fish world yet...I usually just want one fish!
