I have never posted here before, if is is in the wrong forum please move it thank you.

It is well over 30 years since I had Rams.

I am thinking of getting some again you will possibly have to look in My Profile to see if they are OK.

In looking up some references I have come across the following
Apistogramma pertense Yellow Dwarf Cichlid
" reitzigi Dwarf Yellow Chichlid
" ramirezi Ram Chichlid

All this is rather confusing as they all appear to be the same basic shape and size.

My question what should I get (In OZ) and how do I know that I am getting exactly what I require.

Please remember I am in OZ

Have a look in [link=My
Profile]http://www.fishprofiles.com/interactive/forums/profile.asp?userid=6741[/link] for my tank info

If you're looking for blue rams, they are commonly sold as:

Mikrogeophagus ramirezi
Apistogramma ramirezi
Blue ram
German ram
butterfly dwarf something or other :%)
and many variations of these. . .

basically you'll know when you see em

Keith whats your tanks water hardness and PH level? this could help you decide because some like higher PH harder water while others like the lower end. im pretty sure either could be acclimated to whatever level your at but it would be alot easier on the fish if you match the fish to the water.

Keith,
I saw your question on Labrakittys bolivian ram post.
I think a Bolivian Ram would fit really well into your setup. It would love the food you feed, and would get along fine with your other fish.
They are low in the bioload department, and near as I can figure about 3 inch long nose tip to base of tail is about as big as they get.
Beautiful fish, cant go wrong. Get 2 or more if you can, they interact in fascinating ways, and males are not overly aggressive with each other at all. A little flaring and showing off but nothing physical! I have 2 males- great fun to watch them have "dance offs"

There are two species commonly referred to as Rams: Mikrogeophagus ramzeri (German, Blue), and M. altispinosa (Bolivian). The first is considered to be smaller, and more sensitive to water conditions, but generally more colorful than the Bolivian. The German (from Venezuela!) usually needs soft, acidic water if you want to breed them. The Bolivian comes from slightly alkaline waters, so breeding is more likely if you have a pH of 7.0 to 7.5. The Bolivian, though less colorful, will have very nice fin extensions not seen on the German. Both are great fish!

I would go with some nice blue rams. I have 6 of them in my tank and I simply love the bossy males. They are just bossy and nothing else, no nipping or fighting, a little shoving sometimes.

One of my male blue rams was picked on by a clown loach (yes, I keep them with my clowns) and today, I saw him shoving my 3 inch clowns around, each one of the fat boys was picked on by this male. The male ram is only about 1/2 an inch in size, but they are all soooooo cute.
