i have recently re arranged my fish and the end result is a 50 gallon tank housing 4 bolivian rams, a clown pleco, a bristlenose pleco and 2 small angels.

i was thinking of adding another couple of angels and a few cories but just wandered on opinions of the following options:

a keyhole cichlid
or a firemouth cichlid
or a rainbow cichlid

I would go for a keyhole out of those choices but would not add any more angels to the mix. A group of Cories would be nice. You have a lot of bottom dwelling fish, leaving the middle quite bare, do you have any plans for tetras or something?

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

yeah thats a good point, i guess at the moment i dont really have a set plan- i did have a school of neons and some black widows which i took out for treatment- they really filled up the space. now they live in their own 20g, hence the purchase of the angels...

the reason i started looking into the cichlosoma lists was that since i have removed all the fish i have had a mini out break of snails and i was looking into a SA cichlid that might eat snails, then i started discovering all these cool fish i had never seen before and hence the post!

yeah your right though the tank would look a lot cooler if it was a bit more equally in habited. i really like rummy nose tetra, they always seem to be happily schooling in every tank i have seen them and very active- would they eventually fall prey to the angels tho?

also i have 6 panda cories on order at my local pet store- they were supposed to arrive today but were nt available so should arrive in 2 weeks, which would make my stock list:

4 bolivian rams
2 angels
1 clown pleco
1 bristlenose pleco
and hopefully 6 cories

do you think i would be over stocked if i added much else?

Your stocked after that. Angels can grow quite large and often don't like to share tanks either with each other of if you get a breeding pair with other fish. You also have another territorial cichlid that is going to claim space especially if spawning. You would have been best off doing 4-6 loaches instead of the cories if you wanted snail eaters but your bottom level will be too stocked after adding the cories to also fit loaches.

You could get away with a nice school of tetras, but at that I would stop. Definitely no to a fire mouth in your tank. They really get quit large and are very aggressive.

okey thanks for that guys- wish full thinking on the firemouth! i think my next tank shall have to be chichlids... some where down the line!

as for the loaches vs cories- i did consider it but am loosely working in a SA theme. hopefully the cories will mop up any scraps of food and the snails will fade away- they only come out at night anyway!

i was considering adding my betta splenden from a different tank for a short while- he always makes short work of any snails i put in his tank. do you think he would attack the angels/ vice versa?

Hit or miss. I had my betta with an angel and several other people have done it successfully but there are a few that fight. You'd have to keep an eye on them.
