Is it common for two types of Discus to pair off and breed? If I were to get 3 diffrent types of discus (2 of each) would they all stay in a group or would they only stay with there one other species? Would they only breed within the same species or would they "mix" breed?

Thanks for any help,

-Nick

i have 5 discus,
2 blue diamonds, a red dragon, a pigeon blood and a blue turq, and i think that will mean if they spawn, they'll mix breed.

if you have 2 of each then you'll probably find that they'll prefere there own kind over another. i know my blue diamond pair are inseperable, and they haven't reached sexual maturity yet.

Hi Nick,

Discus will cross breed if they are to make their own pairings, but if you have one kind eg: blue diamonds then they will stay together even when you mix them in a community tank. If this did not happen then we wouldn't have all the new strains coming through that there is today.
