Im looking into this species. When I go to the store some of them have this cool blue on the tips of the fins. others are just boring white. Why is this

There are a few variations of the Frontosa. Check out the link below to show you their locations around Lake Tananyika and the differences.

It could be that you were looking at different variants or it could be that there quality issues. Many frontosas (tank bred) are so inbred there are issues with their colour and shape. I know here is Australia it is a big problem because they havent been imported for atleast 10 years.

Great choice gunner, and Lindy is right in her responce, great link Lindy. I would suggest lots of reserch before you buy, as these guys get very expensive. I will assume you know they get very large 10" on average and need a large tank.
I have found that the zaire fronts tend to have the more blue colour to them, and believe me when they colour up they are spectacular.
Check out mine here and see what you think. I have 7 Zaire blue kapampa. Good luck, If you go with frontosa you won't be disapointed.
