could i put a goldfish in with my african cichlids? ordinarilly i would not ask a question like this because i know fish pretty well but my cichlids are not aggressive a all for red zebras,so could i mix them or no b/c they need different water perims. etc... or should i move my africans from a 30 to my 20Gallon and put my whole community aquaria in the 30?

Goldfish are coldwater, pondfish. I would not recommend putting them in a freshwater community.

Goldfish dont really go in community tanks, they give off a lot of sodium and are messy. They do best in freshwater species tanks that are excessivly large, or a pond. ^_^

i would say no, not only b/c of the water issue, and the temp issue(which isn't really important) but what is important is that goldfish out grow indoor tanks, unless the plan is to stunt them, which isn't nice.

well i have alot of plaNTS IN the tank so aggressive ness betwween the cichlids(1.5" and the big goldie are unlikely and the 10 extra gallons would be appreciated by him, the 20 is balanced ythat he is in now but has green water and the 30 is balanced ans has sparkling water so i think ill try it

i decided to put the goldi in the 30 G cichlid tank. he has been in there for about a half-hour and seems to be doing good. the cichlids tend to shy away from him alot but have a few times curiously bumped him and follow him alittle he may have been nipped once but ot really and the goldi actually kind of follows the cichlids, they are scared of him maybe b/c he is 3 times there size.thats a good thing there scared though so as not tro make trouble.

You should not mix a gold fish with cichlids.

Plus, why would you ask, if you were going to do it anyway?

i was wondering the same thing, in the long run it is not a combo that is going to work or should be done, but it is ur choice not mines i guess

but anyway the goldfish is probably going to die of stunting anyway, unless it is given a much larger tank than a 30.

Never mind the stunting, I doubt the goldfish will get big enough for this to happen. The zebras will kill goldie when they mature.
I would reconsider the housing of the goldfish.
