HI all,

I'm new here. I have a 150 gallon aquarium with South American Cichlids. I have 1 Albino Tiger Oscar, 1 Red Devil (I was told it was a Midas Cichlid), 1 Blood Parrot, 1 Fire Mouth, 1 Black Convict, a few plecos and catfish, 2 Severums,a Jack Dempsy, a Senegal Bichir and an albino Senegal Bichir.
Now these guys all started out together when they were about oh i'd say one to three inches long. The largest one now is the Oscar at 7 inches and the smallest one would be the convict at three inches.
I recently tried to add a Green Terror and a Managuense (both were about three inches long) and i thought it wouldn't be a problem, there are plenty of caves and nooks and its a 150 gal. aquarium. Well i was worng, both were dead in 24 hours, I couldn't tell if they had died and then were eaten or if they were just simply attacked.
Is there any chance i can add new cichlids to this tank, or is it too established?
Also alittle off base... what's the best food to feed a freshwater moray eel? I was told small goldfish, but the last time i fed those in my cichlid tank, my oscar got hole in the head.
Also, does any one have good instructions on how to build a sump filter? I've had a fluval on my 150 for about a year, and its not doing the job.

Thanks
Jessica

Although you are running a pretty good sized tank I would not add anything else. It seems as though your fish are going to be out growing even your 150 gal tank. The thing is with Cichlids are they need a lot of area to themselves. You have right now in your tank you have about 10 fish that are going to get to be about 8 inches +. Most of which are going to want to have some space. Cichils are not like tetras where you can have a giant school of them and not have to worry about them. Cichlids will kick the crap out of eachother. I would suguest setting up other large tanks. 75 Gal. + to house your fish.

Thats just me though someone else might tell you something different.

Also how many plecos do you have and what kind of catfish??

I have two plecos, a synodontist catfish and two "eclipse" cats (that's what the pet store i got them from calls them). I left out of the first part my flower horn.
I plan when i get my bonus to get a custom tank, i still have to figure how big though.

If you want to add a new tank mate you pretty much have to rearrange the tank the day you bring the new fish home, this way all the current fish have to establish a new territory while the new fish is being added.

good luck

I think you are way overstocked, as you have quite big fish, don't add more fish & welcome to Fish Profiles.
