Man am I excited ... My yellow labs and my red jewels both had babies ... I have a 50 gallon tank and about a week ago I noticed some red jewel fry in the tank... Then started looking at my lab and she was holding... I moved her to my 20 gallon tank and three days ago she spit out the babies... To my suprise I stil have at least thirty red jewel fry and looks like about twenty yellow labs.... Man I love this hobby Hope to raise them up and get some store credit Also going to pas some of each on to a few of my friends that have tanks this way I get to see them grow up... Sorry so long but I am just sooooo excited

the jewels just laid the egs on one of the rocks in the tank... As for the labs I am not real sure... And this may be a stupid remark but I saw that she was holding the babies in her mouth and so I took her and put her in another tank and two days later she spit them out... Stupidity coming out in 3, 2, and 1.. Do the mouth brooders lay eggs and then gather the fry in the mouth after they hatch or do they just keep the eggs and all in the mouth ??? Anywho I tried to count the babies last night and there are just toooo many.. I think there maybe 50-60 of both

mouthbrooding fish collect their eggs right after they have been fertilised. They hatch in the females mouth, from experience they are held for 3 weeks.
