OK i just bought a juvenile angel fish to be put in my 45 gallon tank, its planted and have a bunch of tetras as tankmates, the adult seems to ignore the juvenile aslong as it keeps its distance, would this work in the long run?

It should work as long as the young fish has "escape" areas. It might be better to add four more small angels to create a loose shoal and to act as dither fish. The larger number of fish should diffuse the larger angel's aggression.

If the aggression is out of control, take the larger fish into isolation. Either place him in a second tank for a week or use a partition to block him from the other fish for a week. This tactic "resets" the fish's sense of territory.

My guesse is that there will be some fighting in the near future. If you do see fighting any time soon, take bob's advice and add a few more angels around the same size as your new one. This will cause the larger ones aggression to be diverted from just the one smaller one. This will also most liklely form you a pair somtime in the future and you can remove the other angels and try your hand at breeding them. Good luck

i have had angel fish before and when u introduce a new one it seems to get picked on and die or just get past and then start to breed and i dont think thats what you want right? so i just keep 1 or 2 adults in one tank cuz they will gang up on smaller and kill and feed to fry.

that is why you add a few more angels to the tank. this way, the aggression will be spread on all of the new commers and not just one. Plus, as his angels start to grow they may fight eachother any way, that's what two of mine did a few months ago in their 55g.

hey thanks for the replies. its bee a couple of weeks now and my little angel fish is doing fine, i'm really surprised that these two are getting along fine, there was some aggression when i introduced the little one but now they get along, i really wasn't expecting this lol.

how many adult angels can be housed in a 45 gallon anyways?
because i think 4 adult angels would be too much
