desiredusername Enthusiast Posts: 182 Kudos: 99 Votes: 36 Registered: 26-Sep-2006 | After months of waiting my new Mbuna tank is finally set up. Last night i wased the pool filter sand, added eggcrate, and arranged the rocks. I will be buying some saluosis tommorow Full tank shot(still cloudy): http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z157/Quack_Quack__Quack/DSCN2346.jpg Side shot: http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z157/Quack_Quack__Quack/DSCN2351.jpg How could i make the rocks look better? |

I liked that look real well. But I read that if you have a center attraction in your tank to draw attention to the center of the tank, that it should be just slightly off center. Apparently it is more appealing to the eye that way. |

However, I agree with fishpatty, that some sort of break or pathway (off centre) might look even better. Just my opinion though. I think there are enough rocks - your fish still need swimming space. I'm planning a mbuna tank too, with some of those nice saluosi. What else are you planning to add? My other choices are Metriaclima estherae (red) and cynotilapia afra (Cobue). I don't know much about African's yet, but these are ones I saw recommended here by others with more experience. Looking forward to seeing a pic with your fish. Cheers TW |

I used goldfish to cycle mine. In South Aus juvie mbuna are $ 20 a pop, so I didn,t want to take the chance. I've got ps.acei, yellow labs, maingano & 2 BN in a 65 Gal tank at the moment. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s74/von_richtofen/DSC02513.jpg make sure you post when you've got fish Ash "if you're goin swimmin, watch out for the noahs" |

Pls show us some pics after the fish have settled in. Not all that clear to see them through the bags Are they all yellow? I'm a mbuna newbie & maybe I'm confused & thinking of a different fish. I thought the males are blue. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1. Are they more yellowish 'cause they are still young? I know the males do start off as yellow. Anyway, they are nice fish and a nice rock display. Good job. Cheers TW |

desiredusername Enthusiast Posts: 182 Kudos: 99 Votes: 36 Registered: 26-Sep-2006 | After watching for a while i think i have 4 males. One is an outcast who sticks to the left of the tank. He occasionally swims over to swim with the others but is quickly scared off. I am feeding twice daily with New Life Spectrum, HBH veggie flakes, and SERA vipan flakes. I will also feed spirulina fed brine shrimp as a treat. Is that enough variation in their diet? |
