Normal Behavior For Oscars?Mouth brooders? | |
Cichlid Kid Fish Addict Posts: 553 Kudos: 285 Votes: 34 Registered: 22-May-2004 | i know oscar are mouth brooders so they pick stuff up in their mouths but mine lately has been picking up gravel and moving it to various spots areound the tank.some times it appears to get stuck in his throat and he just lays there. should i be overly concerned about this or is it somewhat normal and it will eventually come out? |

Oscars and many other cichlids will often try to "design" their own territory. Moving around gravel and even plants and other pieces of decor is not abnormal. I haven't heard of gravel actually getting stuck in a fish's gills or throat, though, that is strange. It shouldn't be a problem for the fish, though, unless the gravel is unusually sharp. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |
