So, my suspicions that i had a male and female Oscar (just by chance!) seem to be true. They've spawned!! I came home today and the large driftwood log in my tank is covered with small cream coloured eggs. The fish i thought was the male (Leopold) is actually the female, and appears to be gaurding the eggs.

So, anyone got any tips or suggestions on ensuring i get some fry from the egg's? It's a 75G tank, with 2 * 12" Oscars in it. It's very regularly and thoroughly cleaned (twice per week at 15%). My tank parameters have been (for the last month) Nitrates < 5ppm, Nitrites = 0ppm, Ammonia = 0ppm. I use two filters - a Fluval 301 and a 'home made' 300G/Hr box filter.

I'm going to do a bit more reading on this, and contact a local fish keepers club, but any comments from my fellow fishprofilers would be appreciated!

Cheers,

Jester - Soon to be Daddy

Very exciting Jester! I cant offer you any advise unfortunately, I just wanted to hear an update on how the eggs/fry are doing.

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

The egg's are all gone... but no fry Looks like they failed their first go at being parents. On the bright side... it looks like i might eventually get some fry, and i know my fish are a family Best of all... i know all of my hard work keeping them happy and healthy is paying off! They are happy and healthy - at least that's the way i read Oscar's trying to breed

Oh well... next time
